The old Starbucks at 2533 Rocky Ridge Road is now White Flowers Gallery, a boutique founded in 1986. The burger counter at 2501 has become a butcher and specialty grocer. A chiropractor's suite in The Shops at Oak Park now sells yarn. Since mid-August, the pizza spot by the fountain has been serving tiramisu and limoncello cake at a sit-down Italian restaurant. Seen together across the 2500 block, these changes follow a pattern. The places you used to pass through quickly are becoming places you stay in.

Five Storefronts, One Direction
Taken one at a time, every swap in that table looks routine. Taken together, they show what kind of tenant this stretch keeps attracting. Mark's Mart opened at 2501 on April 24, 2025, as a grocery, butcher and specialty market in the former Twisted Root Burger Co. space. Its own page still lists hours at that address, Sundays included. White Flowers Gallery, founded in 1986 by Diana and Eric Hansen, left The Shops of Grand River in Leeds for the former Starbucks at 2533 and opened there on September 15, 2025. Knit Happenz moved into Suite 112 at The Shops at Oak Park, taking over from Rocky Ridge Chiropractic.
None of these are businesses you pull up to, grab something from and leave. You browse a butcher case. You take your time in a boutique. You choose yarn by hand. The two openings this fall go further in the same direction.
The Two Openings This Fall
Pazzo Italian sits behind the water fountain at 2516 Rocky Ridge Road, in the space Napoli Pizza used to occupy. It started serving the week of August 19, 2026. Napoli had an unsettled year before the handoff. Staffing shortages closed it temporarily in January 2026, and it held a reopening ribbon cutting on February 12. Pazzo is a different kind of restaurant for this site. It is full table service with wine and cocktails. The menu includes handcrafted pastas, Italian meats and cheeses, crispy calamari, shrimp scampi, chicken parmigiana, grilled vegetable lasagna and gnocchi. Bham Now's opening coverage also named rigatoni Bolognese, chicken piccata, a burrata salad, a baked spinach and goat cheese soufflé, and a dessert lineup with a gelato flight, tiramisu and limoncello cake. The restaurant closes between lunch and dinner, so check the hours before a late-afternoon visit.
Harper Hills Collective opened September 10 at 2531 Rocky Ridge Road, Suite 101, in the same building as Knit Happenz. Owner Wendy Killingsworth stocks furniture, home décor, china sets and other vintage pieces. She also runs a second store in Moody. One feature suits a shop like this. Customers can browse the inventory on the store's Instagram account and claim a piece before they come in. That means a sideboard you spotted on a Tuesday night can be waiting for you on Thursday afternoon.
With Harper Hills Collective, The Shops at Oak Park now has an antiques dealer and a yarn shop under one roof, and White Flowers Gallery is next door at 2533. Three shops built around browsing now sit within a few doors of each other.
The Proposal That Didn't Fit
The clearest sign of where this corridor is headed came from a project that never got built. In spring 2026, LIV Development proposed a New Day Car Wash at 2534 Rocky Ridge Road. GenRev Properties planned a Bullet coffee shop at 2530 on the same site. Together the two would have replaced an existing office building on about 2.4 acres directly north of the Publix in Rocky Ridge Square.
The Planning and Zoning Commission had the plan on its spring schedule but delayed it to allow more neighborhood discussion. On April 27, roughly 75 residents came to a community meeting. LIV Ventures President Tom Spies told them that most customers would already be driving on Rocky Ridge Road and that the car wash would add only a modest amount of traffic. The company offered roadway improvements, including a turn lane, and said the site was engineered so cars waiting for the wash would not back up onto Rocky Ridge Road.
Residents still had concerns about congestion, noise and fit. According to Vestavia Voice, many argued that a car wash did not match the area's desired "village-style atmosphere." They also raised traffic tied to the preschool at Mountain Chapel Methodist Church. The developers withdrew their application after the meeting.
"Village-style" is the neighbors' own phrase, and it describes the leasing pattern on the 2500 block well. A car wash is built around people who never get out of their cars. Every recent arrival in the table above depends on people who do. Local coverage since the withdrawal shows no new public proposal for 2530 or 2534. The office building is still part of the strip for now.
Morgan Drive, Where the Errand Businesses Are Thinning Out
Turn onto Morgan Drive and the trend shows up from the other side. Rocky Ridge Hardware at 3348 Morgan Drive closed after Saturday, May 30, 2026. The store dates to the early '80s, and the Moran family had owned it since 2013. Bham Now's roundup of closings for that week listed it as closed, and no buyer or reopening has been reported.
"This business has meant so much to our family and to our community, and we are incredibly grateful for the support, friendships, and loyalty you've shown us over the years."
Dan Moran, in the store's closing announcement
Moran cited personal reasons for the closure. He also named two pressures that apply well beyond one family. Shopping habits have changed since the pandemic, especially for larger, high-dollar purchases, and the store's property taxes had risen sharply since 2013.
Just across the street, Andy's chose to consolidate. Andy's Farm Market used to have its own storefront at 2489 Rocky Ridge Road. In May 2026 the market moved into Andy's Garden Center at 3351 Morgan Drive, so plants, seasonal goods, Southern produce and specialty items are now sold at one location. The produce is still nearby. It just shares a building with the garden center now.
Errand shopping still exists in Vestavia Hills, but it is gathering in other places. Ace of the Hills opened around July 28 at 680 Old Town Road, on the U.S. 31 corridor next to Chuck E. Cheese. It comes from Chris and April Edwards of Rainbow Paint. Rocky Ridge has not lost all of its practical businesses. Rocky Ridge Square still has its Publix, and Andy's is still on Morgan Drive. But this year the corridor lost a utility retailer and gained a restaurant and an antiques shop.
A Rocky Ridge Afternoon, Built Around the Hours
The new businesses keep shorter hours than the old ones did, so plan a visit around them. Based on the latest posted schedules:
- Andy's Farm Market, 3351 Morgan Drive: Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Harper Hills Collective, 2531 Rocky Ridge Road, Suite 101: Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., open until 6 p.m. on Thursdays
- Pazzo Italian, 2516 Rocky Ridge Road: Tuesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for lunch and 4 to 9:30 p.m. for dinner
Thursday has the widest overlap. You can stop at Andy's for produce before 5, browse Harper Hills until 6, then walk to the fountain and have dinner at Pazzo, all without moving the car.
All of these changes affect how a home near Rocky Ridge Road is described and valued. A walkable dinner, a longtime boutique in the old Starbucks and an antiques shop within a few doors are the kinds of nearby amenities that belong in a listing.
